Course — 2 months (24 hours):
12 individual lessons with a teacher of 1.5 hours each + 6 independent practices in the studio.
The course is for those who want to learn how to mix records, but do not yet have experience in DJing. The program starts with the basics and gradually moves to more complex techniques. The first part of the training is dedicated to working with CD-players to practice basic mixing skills. At the end of the course, you will learn to play on digital and analog media, feel confident with professional equipment and, as a result of the training, will have the opportunity to make your debut at a party.
COURSE TOPICS
1. Mixing on CD-players
Let's get acquainted with the basic mixing algorithm on Pioneer XDJ-1000 players. Work with track speed selection and bpm synchronization. We understand the CUE function — we learn to set the starting point. Track structure: rhythmic grid, squares, strong and weak parts. Working with magnifying glasses
2. Work with the mixer
We learn to use the equalizer and eliminate frequency conflicts. We train the smoothness of the erection. What is gain and how does it differ from master volume. What are the types of mixers and what are their features. What effects and filters can be useful and how to use them correctly.
3. Construction of vinyl players
Getting to know the Technics 1210 vinyl players. Let's talk about their functions and features, why this particular model has become the most popular among DJs. We will teach you how to install records and tell you about the rules for caring for them.
4. Needles and cartridges
Acquaintance with models and manufacturers of needles and cartridges. What is their difference and which should be used. How to connect the needles and adjust the tonearm of the record player. What problems can arise, how to solve them and how to prevent them.
5. Mixing technique on vinyl players
The specifics of mixing on vinyl players. The technique of working with the speed of tracks. Features of compilation of different styles of music. Practice and sharpen mechanical skills
6. Selection of tracks and construction of the set
Familiarity with the main Internet resources, where to search and download tracks. How is it built and what is the difference between a DJ set and a podcast. Podcast and set dynamics - how to start, how to develop and how to end. Recordbox - basic functionality and purpose
7. Musical performance
Practice playing with more than two players. The specifics of combining different styles of music. Analysis of different information techniques. The tonality of the track and mixing of tracks in one tonality. Camelot wheel and how to use it. Additional features of your set - loops, acapella.
8. Graduation party and mix recording
Star time and proof that you are a real DJ. After the end of the course, we invite the most conscientious students to express themselves at the graduation party at SEXTO STATION. At the party, we record mixes that will later serve as promotional material for the graduates.
How is the training ?
Learning is based on practice. Classes are held individually with the teacher in a dialogue format. The degree of your previous training does not matter. All the necessary equipment and additional materials are provided by the school, all you need is you and your desire.
